It’s time to sharpen your stakes because Buffy the Vampire Slayer is getting a fresh reboot more than 20 years after its OG ’90s show.
This time, the cult favourite is getting a modern revamp with some more drama, new supernatural threats, and a whole lot of witty one-liners and sass.
Fans of the original can expect plenty of nods to Sunnydale’s glory days, while a new generation will get their first taste of Buffy’s iconic legacy.
Read on for everything we know about the reboot.

Is Buffy the Vampire Slayer coming back?
The iconic monster-fighting teen who ruled the ’90s is making a comeback for her brand new adventure.
The Hollywood Reporter shared that Hulu is developing a follow-up with a 2025 upgrade, with new villains lurking around and maybe even a few surprise cameos from the OG Scooby Gang.
Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao will be directing the series, with the script being written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman.
Sarah Michelle Gellar has also confirmed that the Buffy reboot is “progressing faster than anticipated.” And we sure hope so because we cannot wait!

Who is in the cast of the Buffy reboot?
We have some very exciting news, as YES, Sarah Michelle Gellar will be returning to her role as Buffy.
Because what is Buffy without Sarah??
The new age of Buffy will see Sarah now stepping into a mentor role, while Ryan Kiera Armstrong takes up the stake as Nova, the new slayer.
Joining the fight are Faly Rakotohavana as Hugo, a charming high-school geek; Ava Jean as Larkin; Sarah Bock as Gracie; Daniel di Tomasso as Nova’s father, Abe; Jack Cutmore-Scott as the mysterious Mr. Burke; and Kingston Vernes as Nova’s romantic interest.
It has also been confirmed that Chase Sui Wonders will play Shirley in what is rumoured to be a one-off role in the pilot.
With a whole new Scooby Gang ready to face the Hellmouth, this reboot promises to slay.

What is the plot for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot?
The reboot will follow Nova, a shy high schooler who discovers that she is the next slayer.
She ends up being guided by a mentor (none other than Buffy) to help her navigate the challenges of finding her place in modern teen life, as well as the uncertainties of supernatural threats.
With a fresh Scooby Gang by her side, the series promises a lighter tone than the original’s later seasons.
As Sarah teased, “We’re trying to figure out how to modernise the themes of the series… what it means to feel like an outsider in a world dominated by social media.”
